Branding – Justin McCorkle for County Council

02 . 11 . 21

Justin McCorkle is the son of George McCorkle, a founding member of the Marshall Tucker Band. His father wrote such songs as “Fire on the Mountain.” Justin’s Godfather was Charlie Daniels! No pressure, right?

Maybe more importantly, Justin himself is a southern rocker with the guitars and beard to prove it. When Justin decided to challenge his local County Council incumbent, he tasked our firm with developing a unique brand that reflected his southern rock roots and steered away from the usual Republican branding (elephants, red, white and blue, etc).

Our solution was a logo and branding that evokes the letterpress logos of old southern rock bands – and captures the silhouette of an electric guitar.

Capturing a candidate’s “essence” is really difficult. And our industry is continually tempted to use cookie cutter, red white and blue branding for GOP candidates. We decided to go in a totally opposite direction.

Justin’s campaign, featuring such innovations as jam session Q&As on Facebook, was a great success – he defeated the incumbent in a runoff by a sizable margin.
