Matt Moore is an award-winning political strategist with extensive experience at the highest levels of party leadership, campaigns, and public affairs. He served as Chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party from 2013 to 2017, and in 2016 was named to the short list of candidates to lead the Republican National Committee.
Prior to his two-term tenure as SCGOP Chairman, Matt held several senior leadership roles, including State Director for U.S. Senator Tim Scott and Executive Director of the South Carolina Republican Party. His earlier experience includes serving as Outreach Director for Governor Mark Sanford, Deputy Political Director for the Republican Governors Association, Deputy Field Director and Software Engineer for the Georgia Republican Party, and Policy Assistant to Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue. Over the course of his career, Matt has advised and guided hundreds of successful political and public affairs campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels.
Matt’s strategic leadership has delivered a series of landmark victories. In 2020, he played a central role in the South Carolina Senate Republican Caucus independent expenditure campaign that defeated three Democratic incumbents. In 2022, he served as a senior advisor to Russell Fry’s successful congressional campaign, unseating a five-term incumbent, and was a chief strategist for Ellen Weaver’s victorious campaign for South Carolina Superintendent of Education, guiding both the primary and general election efforts. During the 2023–2024 cycle, Matt served as a senior advisor to the Trust in the Mission PAC (TIMPAC) supporting Senator Tim Scott’s presidential campaign, and again led a successful SC Senate Republican Caucus independent expenditure effort that unseated four additional Democratic incumbents.
In recognition of his work, the American Association of Political Consultants named Matt one of the nation’s “40 Under 40” top campaign professionals in 2019.
Beyond electoral politics, Matt advises businesses, nonprofits, and organizations nationwide on complex public affairs challenges in Washington, D.C., and across the states. With experience spanning federal, state, and local government, he brings a nuanced understanding of how policy, politics, and governance intersect. In 2014, he earned The New York Times “Quotation of the Day” for his insight into the power of grassroots activism in the social media era.
Raised in Tifton, Georgia, Matt attended public schools before earning the highest academic scholarship awarded by Georgia Tech, where he graduated with honors in industrial engineering and a minor in law. He later completed a master’s degree in economics at the University of South Carolina, where his thesis drew both state and national media attention for its innovative application of economic theory.
